My husband and I love taking road trips. There is something about a road trip that creates a state of heightened excitement, and it's also good for our soul, no matter the destination.
Why are road trips good for us? Because it feels like an adventure, it can help us relieve stress, forget about work or other commitments, explore the countryside, experience different cultures and history, capture new sights on camera, create memories with friends and family, enjoy our music … and so much more!
In this video, we are sharing four of our recent road trips with you. If you live in the UK, may be you can visit these lovely places one day; if you live in other parts of the world, we hope you’ll enjoy seeing where we are taking you on these journeys.

Escape to Elan! It’s a world away from the relentless pace of modern life but close enough to make a memorable day trip from Birmingham (where much of their water travels to!), Wales, and Manchester.
There are many reasons to visit Elan Valley. Part of the rugged Cambrian Mountains, Elan is a beautiful and unspoilt area made even more compelling by the dams and reservoirs which together create a wonderful, living landscape.
The dams and reservoirs were built to supply regular fresh water to Birmingham. Building work began in 1883, continuing until the last dam was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. There are six impressive dams altogether. Four follow the Elan River, two are on the river Claerwen.
2. Devil’s Bridge Falls
Devil's Bridge Falls is a spectacular waterfall attraction. Devil's Bridge is in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains. It is one of the 'Must See' natural features in Wales, located 12 miles inland from the coastal town of Aberystwyth.
Follow the path through the ancient oak woodland deep down into the Rheidol gorge.
The last run of downwards steps consist of ‘Jacobs’ Ladder’ where there is a flight of 100 steps all in one run. Once you have descended down Jacobs’ Ladder you will cross over the ‘humped bridge’.
According to legend, the original Devil’s Bridge was built by the Devil himself. He constructed the bridge for a little old lady in exchange for her soul, or the soul of the first living being to cross ....
But the old lady outwitted the Devil to save her cow. Which is how Devil’s Bridge got it's name.
3. Speke Hall and Garden
The house wasn’t open when we visited on a Tuesday, but we mainly came to see the bluebells this time.
The beautiful apple blossoms are in full bloom as well.
Bluebells are one of the last spring flowers to bloom before the woodland canopy closes up and new leaves block out the sunlight.
Whichever direction you look, Speke's bluebells are breathtaking.
One of the reasons we adore bluebells is because of their admirable beauty: graceful, arching stems bearing delicate bells of deep colour. But when those single splashes of blue multiply to form dreamy pools of thousands of plants, the colour and scent intensify and you can’t help but lose yourself among the extravagant sense of abundance after the barren winter months.
4. Lower Brockhampton Medieval Manor House
Lower Brockhampton Manor. This lovely timber-framed manor house dates back to the late 14th century. Surrounded by a slumbering moat and only accessible by crossing the water via a timber-framed gatehouse, which dates back to the early 16th century, you really feel like you are taking a step back in time.
You access the house by going through the gatehouse, which crosses the moat and was built in 1530-40. As you go through you can climb some stairs to see inside.
The house has seen many changes in its history and has thus been laid out to take you through 500 years from the Medieval Great Hall through to the 1950s.
A young man who lived in the house before leaving to fight in the Great War. The room is laid out with his uniform and some information about how Thomas Sprague volunteered and in 1915 set off, with many young men for the war.
From the Great Hall you go up a staircase into the Minstrels’ Gallery and through to the bedrooms.
Outside, a short distance beyond the Tudor gatehouse stand the ruins of a Norman chapel.
The view of Lower Brockhampton Manor, is a timeless view. There are also miles of walks through orchards, park and woodland. It truly is one of the most enjoyable and picturesque historic sites in England.
